Why are England top of the Euro 2021 betting odds?
No matter what the tournament is, there are a group of nations that always find their way to the top of the market to win it all. England usually find themselves alongside Germany, France, Italy and Spain who know how to navigate their way through a major tournament to reach the knockout stage, if not the semi-finals or final. But such rarefied England to win Euro odds is new territory for a side who have struggled in the past to cope with being top of the betting markets but with an extra year to prepare, they might be able to finally deliver success for the first time since winning the 1966 World Cup on home soil. Their place at the top of the Euro 2021 betting odds is justified. You want to place your bet right away? Great! But please take a look at the current standings and the form of the teams and place your bet well-considered.

Southgate is the man to deliver success
As a player, Gareth Southgate played in a European Championships semi-final at Wembley in 1996 and will unfortunately be remembered for missing the crucial penalty against Germany as England missed out on a place in the final. As a manager, Southgate will hope to lay those ghosts to rest by taking the Three Lions to the semi-finals at the very least. Southgate will know his side are favoured by the majority of bookmakers and will have to find a way to embrace the forgiving England to win Euro odds.
This will be Southgate’s second major tournament and sales in waist coats will surely soar this summer if England can finally live up to the hype surrounding them and be crowned champions at Wembley on July 11. He will be delighted to see his country top of the
Euro 2021 odds
prior to the start of the tournament. Southgate guided his country to the semi-finals of the World Cup in Russia three years ago where they were knocked out by Croatia despite opening the scoring.
The Football Association’s expectations are just as high as the nation’s and the bookies, but Southgate has shown in his time in charge since replacing Roy Hodgson after England’s disastrous Euro 2016, that England deserve to be top of the Euro 2021 betting odds. Southgate has taken his country inside FIFA’s top 10 where they have been a regular fixture for the last couple of years. If anyone can lead England to glory, it’s Southgate.

Three lions have strength in depth
Since January 1, football fans in England have been putting together their ideal England squads for this summer’s European Championships. Pundits have had their say on TV but the only opinion that matters is that of Southgate. The players he has available are why they find themselves in pole position in the Euro 2021 odds.
England are well placed to make good on being top of the Euro 2021 odds with an abundance of talent all over the pitch. Between now and the end of the domestic seasons, players are running out of time to try and force their way into Southgate’s reckoning.
The England manager will be seen at several Premier League grounds in the closing weeks of the season to check on the form of those players provisionally pencilled in. While players can play themselves into consideration, players can also play themselves out of contention with a string of below-par performances. Check out the best betting odds for the upcoming European Championship tournaments below.

Pickford deserves to be picked
Everton shot-stopper Jordan Pickford has been Southgate’s go-to goalkeeper ever since he became manager of the Three Lions. It would be hard to see Pickford dislodged but any major errors before the end of the season could prove costly.
Pickford’s form this season has been erratic at times this season and he will not be taking his place for granted. Waiting in the wings if Pickford’s form dips are Nick Pope of Burnley and Manchester United’s Dean Henderson.
Countries that do well at major tournaments usually have a reliable goalkeeper who is used to keeping clean sheets. All three keepers are good enough to play this summer and perform to a level expected of a nation that hopes to merit its short
England to win Euro odds.
A case for the defence
If Gareth Southgate starts the Euros with a 4-4-2 formation, there is a distinct possibility that the back four will come from the two Manchester clubs. United’s Harry Maguire and City’s John Stones seem set to start at the heart of the defence and they will probably be joined at full-back by City’s Kyle Walker and United’s Luke Shaw.
Shaw’s story is a remarkable one. His form for Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side this season has been the best form of his career and he has been deservedly rewarded for that form by a return to the England squad.
The remarkable aspect of Shaw’s renaissance is the fact his ninth cap was won seven years after he made his international debut. Shaw’s presence in the team offers something different to his rivals in that defensively he is very solid while in attack, he is very creative. If England are to cash in on being favourites in the England to win Euro odds, they might need a player with Shaw’s versatility to do so.

Plenty of midfield maestros to choose from
When Gareth Southgate announces his final squad, there are going to be some very disappointed players. West Ham’s Declan Rice is probably the only player guaranteed a place because he is the best defensive midfielder England have to choose from, right now.
After that, there is a group of players vying for the other roles in Southgate’s midfield. Jesse Lingard’s international career looked over following his inability to nail down a regular place in Manchester United’s team. But a loan move to West Ham has revitalised the attack-minded midfielder who knows where the goal is.
Manchester City’s Phil Foden has shone for his club as they chase a possible quadruple and he must be close to securing a place in Southgate’s starting XI. But players like Chelsea’s Mason Mount, James Ward-Prowse of Southampton and Dortmund’s teenage sensation Jude Bellingham will be doing all they can to be included. Bellingham showed in Dortmund’s Champions League quarter-final that he is not fazed by the big stage at the age of 17.
Jack Grealish has been superb for Aston Villa this season, but an untimely injury sidelined him for the most recent international break and could see him drop down the pecking order. Picking midfielders could be Southgate’s biggest headache, but that’s one of the reasons why the Three Lions are well fancied in the

Kane leads his country and the attack
Having a good squad means nothing unless you have players who can put the ball in the back of the net and England are blessed with several natural goalscorers. Other nations will look with an envious eye as to their choices up front and see why they are number one in the Euro 2021 betting odds.
Tottenham’s Harry Kane won the Golden Boot award at the World Cup in Russia three years ago and he will be looking to finish top of the goalscoring charts this summer. It could be a glorious month for Kane who will be the man to lift the trophy on July 11 if England can live with topping the Euro 2021 odds.
It’s hard to believe Kane was talking corners at the last European Championships, but those days are well behind him. He will enjoy leading his nation this summer knowing he is top of the goalscoring market and top of the Euro 2021 betting odds. However, England cannot rely on Kane to be their saviour and they will need goals from other players.
Raheem Sterling is used to playing tournament football and he has a good knack of being in the right place at the right time. Sterling’s experience should see him start ahead of the likes of Everton’s Dominic Calvert-Lewin and Ollie Watkins of Aston Villa who have combined to score 26 goals in the Premier League this season.
Waiting in the reserve
England have rarely had it so good in terms of the talent pool they have to pick from. Defenders Ben Chilwell is enjoying a great first season at Chelsea helping the Blues reach the semi-finals of the Champions League. Also, he is not afraid to get forward and has managed to chip in with three goals.
Kieran Trippier performed well at the World Cup three years ago and has helped make Atletico Madrid title contenders in Spain. Trent Alexander-Arnold has helped Liverpool become champions of Europe and England in back-to-back seasons and he is battling to earn a spot in Southgate first choice line-up.
But after that, the cover lacks experience which makes the defence an area that could be England’s downfall. Southgate will hope any deficiencies in defence can be offset by the creativity further up the field.
The Euros might be a bit too soon for Leeds United’s midfielder Kalvin Phillips who will certainly be targeting a place in the squad for next year’s World Cup in Qatar. Jordan Henderson is a steady defensive midfielder who is capable of sneaking into the box to score the odd goal.
Dortmund’s Jadon Sancho, Leicester’s Harvey Barnes and Manchester United’s Mason Greenwood and the emergence of Arsenal’s Bukayo Saka, is great for England’s future but they might miss out this time.
The players that might find themselves missing out on the Euros could walk into one of the other country’s squads to further emphasise how strong England’s squad is. But the question football fans up and down the country want answering is whether the squad Southgate selects can land the big prize while being favourites in the Euro 2021 betting odds. Win to nil or on the winner, are your favorite bets? great! We provide you with the latest high odds so you can place your bet correctly.

Reaching the knockout stage will be tricky
Being top of the Euro 2021 odds is one thing, but it guarantees the nation absolutely nothing. The players have to go out and prove that the bookies were right to back England to win the Euros.
Firstly, England have to make their way through the group stage which is easier said than done. Croatia with Luka Modric pulling the strings in midfield will have their eyes on top spot in Group D while the Czech Republic and Tomas Soucek will have their say on who wins the group. Soucek will return to West Ham next season hoping to be able to brag about beating the favourites in the Euro 2021 betting odds on their home ground and ending the chance for England to win the Euros.
And then there is Scotland. This is the first time the Scots have qualified for a major tournament since appearing at the World Cup in 1998 in France. Two years before that, Scotland qualified for Euro 1996 and had the pleasure of facing England at Wembley.
England got the better of them that day but only after Gary McAllister had a penalty saved by David Seaman before Paul Gascoigne sealed a 2-0 win with a superb solo goal which was accompanied by his infamous ‘dentist chair’ celebration.
Scotland will feel they have unfinished business with their neighbours and knowing they are unlikely to win the tournament, the next best thing would be to beat England and make a mockery of the odds on England to win Euro 2024.
A victory for Steve Clarke’s side in the middle game for both countries would certainly see the Euro 2021 betting odds shift away from the Three Lions. Southgate played in that 1996 contest and he will hope for a similar result 25 years later, taking it as a springboard.for England to win the Euros for the first time.

Conclusion
One of the reasons why England find themselves looking down at the other nations in the Euro 2021 odds is because of the format of the tournament. For the first time in the history of the European Championships, the tournament will not be held in just one country. It was decided several years ago to spread the tournament over 12 different countries, so for England to win the Euros they simply need to harness home advantage.
That seemed a good idea at the time, but since the decision was made, the world has had to deal with a Covid-19 pandemic that has led to travel bans in numerous countries. Changes to venues may still happen if the pandemic is still a cause for concern, but all being well, England should have a major advantage over the other nations taking part, which is a reason to be confident on the betting odds for England to win Euro 2024.
Not only are their group matches all taking place at their home ground, Wembley, but the same venue will host the semi-finals and final. That means the only game England could play away from their home ground will be the quarter-final, assuming they make it out of their group – and if they make the last four a lot of people will expect England to win the Euros.
This is the third time Wembley will host a major tournament final and the first since it was redeveloped, and it helped the Three Lions win the 1966 World Cup and helped them reach the semi-finals of Euro 1996. Because of this territorial advantage, bookies have given short odds for England to win Euro 2024 knowing the motivation to lift a trophy in your home country is worth its weight in gold.
