Tip:
Home to Score 3+ Goals
For our World Cup qualifier predictions today, we’re focussing on the first of the home nations sides in action over the weekend, as the Republic of Ireland host minnows Luxembourg in Dublin on Saturday. Our World Cup qualifier tips, betting info and predictions follow on below.
Ireland’s Winless Run Continues
Ireland put up one hell of a fight in their opening qualifier against Serbia in Belgrade, however ultimately the World Cup qualifier predictions of most came true, as Serbia ran our 3-2 winners. The luck of the Irish seams to have somewhat deserted this current crop of Boys in Green, who now haven’t won in nine games – a friendly win over New Zealand in November 2019. Their last competitive win was a Euro qualifier win over Bulgaria in September 2019. Coming up against a micronation side such as Luxembourg should be a good chance for Ireland to grab a win and regain some confidence.
Luxembourg Without a Win in Four
Luxembourg kick off their 2022 World Cup qualification campaign off the back of a 4 game winless run. However, they do have more recent wins in the Nations League than their Irish hosts on Saturday. On Wednesday evening, they lost a home friendly to 2022 World Cup hosts Qatar. Despite having a population of less than 615,000, the majority of their squad players are professionals, with most fo them playing their club football imn neighbouring Belgium. Still even coming up against a poor form Irish side, our World Cup qualifier predictions don’t look amazing for Luxembourg.
There’s sides have literally zero competitive or friendly head to head history recorded in recent times. Therefore, all we can do is look at recent form for our World Cup qualifier predictions today. The last batch of competitive matches for these sides came in the Nations League, with Luxembourg faring better in their group than the Irish. This doesn’t have too much bearing on this game though, as the Nations League was set up so that international sides were pitted against teams of a similar nation size and Fifa ranking.

Our Betting Tip for Today
Having analysed the above information, we’re unsurprisingly predicting an irish win, it’s just a question of margine.
A Much Needed Win for the Irish
Luxembourg have failed to score in each of their last two games, each of which were played against weaker opposition than the Irish on paper. Ireland scored first and last in their 3-2 loss in Belgrade, but showed some fight against a strong side. We therefore expect this game to act as a confidence booster for the Irish, with a clean sheet, though it’s unlikely there will be cricket score style goalfest. The leading line of Callum Robinso and Aaron Connely have 22 caps and just one goal between them, and recent form means Stephen Kenny will take a relatively cautious approach. The last time LUxembourg played similar level opposition was a 3-0 home friendly loss to Austria, and we think the Irish are capable of such a result. Our tips is therefore Ireland to score 3+ goals at odds of 3.1 at Bet365.
