England will welcome Scotland to Wembley Stadium in the second clash of Group D for either side, with the Tartan Army looking to avenge their defeat at the Euros 25 years ago. The Three Lions got off to an impressive start when they beat Croatia in their opening fixture, but Scotland must avoid defeat here to avoid losing their grip on qualification to the knockout rounds.

This meeting is the oldest fixture in world football and despite not meeting all that often, this might be the most important one to date, given the outcome of a defeat for Scotland. Here, we’ll provide a betting tip for this Group D clash as part of our Euro 2020 predictions today.
England
England started off Euro 2020 as the favourites in the eyes of many, and at the very least, as the odds-on favourite to advance from Group D. Now, after a professional and eloquent 1-0 victory over Croatia, a win for the Three Lions would all but confirm top status in their group.
The win over their 2018 nemesis, Croatia, stretched England’s unbeaten run in 2021 to six, meaning they have still only conceded one goal this year, bagging 12 of their own along the way.
England’s positive form has been matched with a lack of consistency in the starting XI, with Gareth Southgate yet to field the exact same team at any point this year.
Scotland
Scotland headed into Euro 2020 with plenty of optimism as they boasted arguably their best squad heading into a major tournament they’ve ever had. However, after Kieran Tierney’s absence against the Czech Republic, the Scots were quickly brought back down to earth with a 2-0 defeat.
The Arsenal defender has “a chance” to play against England, stated Scotland manager, Steve Clarke, and this in itself is a worry. Without Tierney, Scotland looked all over the place at times in defence, and the loss to the Czechs means they’ve won just twice from their six games in 2021. His absence will really affect this Euro 2020 prediction.
The history between England and Scotland goes back to the beginning of time in football, with the two meeting in the first-ever international match back in 1872, where a 0-0 draw was played out.
England do boast most of the positives from this fixture, with them winning 48 meetings and Scotland only 41, whilst the Three Lions have won three of the four fixtures this century, with the Tartan Army managing a draw in the most recent clash.
The most famous meeting between the two was that Euro 1996 group game, where Paul Gascoigne scored one of English football’s most famous goals, and despite Scotland winning three years later, this remains their only win since 1985 over England.

The fixtures between England and Scotland since the beginning of this rivalry back in 1872 are probably closer than most people think, with the Three Lions only boasting seven more wins.
England have, however, demolished Scotland in the modern era, with just two wins since 1985 for them, whilst the one-time world champions have won 8 of the 11 games since that meeting in the 80s.

Our Betting Tip for Today
In our Euro 2020 prediction this weekend, we struggle to look past England.
Given the Three Lions’ astute win over Croatia and Scotland’s 2-0 loss to the Czech Republic, it is extremely tough to call a Scotland win. We’re backing England to get the job done here and do so quite comfortably with a 2-0 win for our Euro 2020 predictions today.
England the clear favourites
As England have dominated this fixture over the past 30 years, combined with their superior form right now, everything points to a Three Lions victory. Now, given how England have scored at least two goals in seven of the last eight meeting between the two, we’re backing a 2-0 win for them here.
Gareth Southgate’s men can be backed to be victorious by a 2-0 scoreline with Bet365 at 5/1. Furthermore, with Harry Kane firing a blank last time but scoring the equaliser in the 93rd minute the last time the two sides met, he is expected to come back with a bang.
