England are looking strong
England breezed through Euro 2020 qualifying, scoring 34 goals and conceding just 5. Their form since in friendlies and Nations League matches has been great, with their most recent loss coming against Belgium back in November 2020.
Injuries could make or break England’s tournament hopes this summer. Harry Maguire, arguably their best defender, is currently touch-and-go as to whether or not he’ll be fit in time, whilst Liverpool right-back Alexander-Arnold recently pulled out of the squad due to a thigh injury.
However, with youngsters Foden, Sancho, and Mount in great form, and goal-machine Harry Kane in attack, England could well be too hot for Croatia to handle this time around.
Croatia may surprise England once more
Croatia’s recent form has left a lot to be desired. Drawing against Armenia and losing to Belgium in their final warm-up fixtures before the Euro’s may be a sign of things to come for the Eastern Europeans.
Croatia are taking a squad full of quality to the Euros this summer. Luka Modric, Mateo Kovacic, and Ivan Perisic will be aiming to go one better than they did in the 2018 World Cup and actually win the whole tournament.

England and Croatia’s first game against each other didn’t come until 1996, mainly because Croatia was a part of Yugoslavia until 1991. There have been 10 games between the sides since.
All of Croatia’s wins against the English have come at arguably the most important times. After defeating England 2-0 in 2006, the Eastern Europeans then beat the English 3-2 at Wembley, killing all hope England had of qualifying for Euro 2008.
Eleven years later and Croatia beat England again, on an even bigger stage, in the World Cup semi-final in Russia.
Though England got revenge in their last meeting in 2018, it was little consolation for their crushing defeat in Russia.
