This weekend is match day 11 in the newly popular, topsy turvy Belarusian premier league. We’re focussing our attention on Sunday, which brings us the Belarusian Premier League’s first ever Brest derby. The game looks to be a tightly fought, edgy affair as the reigning champions take on their former farm club.

This fixture is perhaps the newest top flight local derby in the world, with the two teams only having met twice previously; once in a friendly and once in the cup. We’ve looked at both teams’ form this season, and their history, to come up with our betting tips for this one.
Rukh are faring well in their first top flight season
Rukh Brest’s rapid rise could be straight out of a movie. They were founded as an amateur club just 4 years ago in 2016, and decided to turn pro in 2018 as a farm club for their visitors, Dynamo Brest. They entered Belarussian football in the second tier and won the league in their debut season. Their partnership has now ended with Dynamo and have impressed so far this season as they currently sit in 7th place. This is largely thanks to their impressive defensive record and penchant for sharing the spoils, having drawn 4 of their last 5.
Dynamo are low on confidence
The reigning champions are learning the hard way that following up a debut success is no easy feat. They go into this one having been done over by league leaders BATE twice in the space of 4 days, as a 3-1 home loss in the league was followed by a 1-0 loss in the cup final in Belarus. To make matters worse, their hosts and former farm club sit 2 places above them in the table and have a far superior defensive record. It’s still relatively early in the season though and a win would see them leapfrog their new local rivals.
The history between these two teams is rather unique considering that they were on the same side until the start of this season. Rukh were forced to disassociate themselves from Dynamo over the winter break because they won promotion to the Premier League in their debut season. The new local rivals have met twice previously; once in a friendly in 2018 to seal their new partnership and once in the cup back in July, with Dynamo winning on both occasions. Last season Dynamo were a different unit so their first league tie could have a very different outcome for the reigning champions.

As there’s very little history between these two sides, we’ve looked at this season’s form to come up with our betting tip for this one. Dynamo look a totally different team to the one that knocked their former feeder club out of the cup back in July.

Our Betting Tip for Today
Based on what we’ve seen so far this season, all the signs point to the first Brest derby serving up a low scoring draw.
Low scoring draw looks to be on the cards
Despite their poor form this season, Dynamo do go into this one as very slight favourites, but we’re favouring the draw. Rukh have drawn five this season and have an impressive defensive record while Dynamo have proven to be pretty leaky at the back. The reigning champions do look low on confidence however they should be at least a little motivated by the prospect of avoiding embarrassment of being defeated at the hands of their former farm club. Of Rukh’s 5 draws this season, 3 have been 0-0 and 2 have ended 1-1.
We expect Dynamo to grab a goal, likely from Ukraine veteran Milevskiy, but this team don’t look like they have enough fight in them to win this game, so we’re backing Rukh to grab one back. Our betting tip this week is a 1-1 at odds of 7.0 with William Hill.
