For our Premier League predictions today, we’re focussing on an almost long forgotten rivalry. Manchester United host Leeds at Old Trafford in the top flight for the first time since 2004. We’ve analysed the build up to bring you top Premier League tips & predictions for this one.
United making up ground in the league
Despite their recent European failings, Manchester United aren’t actually doing too badly in the league, despite what some Premier League predictions may lead you to think. Sunday’s boring stalemate in the Manchester Derby means that they sit on 23 point. However they still have 2 games in hand on a number of teams above them, meaning if they win both, they’ll be right in the mix for a top 4 spot. It has, however been an inconsistent season for the Red Devils and the Pogba fiasco is still ongoing, they do have a rock in the form of Bruno Fernandes though.
Leeds bounce back midweek
The brand of football that we’ve seen from Leeds since they were promoted has been consistently exciting, but not brought consistent results. They sit well above the relegation zone, but in the bottom half of the table following their impressive win against Newcastle midweek. With a legendary manager in the form of Marcelo Beilsa and a target man in the form of Patrick Bamford, Leeds look a good shout to stay up this season. Although notching up a decent run of winning results seems to evade this Leeds side, they also never look like slumping into a proper bad run of form – as was proven by Wednesday’s bounce back.
As is famously known, these old bitter rivals haven’t met in the Premier League since 2004, a game which ended 1-1 – not a bad result for a then relegation-bound Leeds side playing against Fergie’s United. The pair have met twice competitively since Leeds got relegated, the the FA Cup in 2010 when Leeds pulled off a shock 1-0 win at Old Trafford and in the EFL Cup in 2011, when United enacted vengeance at Elland Road. Some of the current crop of players have met each other in a friendly last summer, but that should have little bearing on our Premier League predictions today.

Our Betting Tip for Today
Having analysed all of the above information, our Premier League predictions suggest a Manchester United win on Sunday.
Leeds have scored in the first half only to lose in 2 of their last 3 games, however they went behind in Wednesday’s win against Newcastle. That should play into the hands of their host Manchester United who have, on occasion, become the masters of the second hand come back – or at least attempted comebacks. However, the fact that Leeds play attacking football despite lacking the quality that some of the bigger teams poses, could see a game where the counter attacking United of last season appear in style. The result could flatter United, but given their defensive frailties, will also most likely see Leeds scoring at least once. We do see the recent trends being bucked because of this, however. Therefore our betting tip for this match is to back Manchester United to win both halves, which you can place at odds of 2.6 with Bet365.
