For our Premier League predictions today, we’re turning our attention to Merseyside, where Champions Liverpool host early strugglers Sheffield United. We’ve analysed the facts, the stats and more to bring you are top Premier League tips & betting forecasts for this match on Saturday.
Liverpool hit a bump in the road
After looking certain to retain their title after their opening 3 games, Liverpool slumped to a shock 7-2 defeat at the hands of last year’s relegation dodgers Aston Villa. The Reds returned from the international break with a strong performance against Everton in the Merseyside Derby. This was a game the Reds looked to have won in the dying seconds of the game, only for VAR to rear its ugly head once again. The biggest blow for Liverpool from the game was the injury to Virgil van Dijk, who’s set to be out for 6-8 months.
Sheffield still chasing their first win
After impressing in their first top flight season since 2007 last year, most Premier League predictions experts were expecting more of the same from Sheffield United this season. However, the Blades have had a horrific start to the 2020/21 campaign, having slumped to 4 consecutive defeats. They finally put their first point on the board last weekend, in a 1-1 draw against bottom placed Fulham, who are below them only on goal difference. It’s not all bad news for Chris Wilder’s side. Despite being 2nd bottom of the table they have the joint 3rd best defence in the league.
Last year’s two Premier League meetings were the first between the sides since 2007. Liverpool got the better of Sheffield United on both accessions, winning 1-0 at Bramall Lane in September followed by a 2-0 win in January, Despite losing both games, Sheffield United performed impressively and may have got something from the game had they not been playing a Liverpool side in near unstoppable form. Although both squads remain similar to those that met last season, both sides go into this match in very different form. This therefore promises to be an interesting Premier League prediction weekend.

Our Betting Tip for Today
Having analysed the above information, our Premier League predictions today point to a comfortable Liverpool win.
Liverpool to return to winning ways
Had the Sheffield United of last season been playing the Liverpool of this season, we’d have fancied them to get something from the game. However, even though Liverpool haven’t exactly been the solid unit they were last season, this Sheffield United side don’t look like they have enough to snatch their first Premier League win of the season from the reigning Champions. That being said, with Liverpool missing Alisson and Van Dijk, there are definitely more mistakes in the defence. Moreover, Liverpool have scored in all but one of their Premier League games this season and have a significantly worse defensive record than their visitors. This is largely thanks to their 7-2 thrashing at the hands of Aston Villa. We therefore predict that Sheffield United will find the net. That’s why our betting tip for today is for both teams to score @ 1.92 with Bet365.
