For our FA Cup predictions today, our selected fixture is taking place in the Midlands, as Aston Villa host the faltering league leaders Liverpool. Neither side has a fared well in this competition in recent times, so it could be Premier League form that influences our FA Cup tips & predictions for this one.
Villa’s strong season continues
Aston Villa did falter after their impressive start to the season, which saw them thrash this weekend’s opponents Liverpool 7-2 back in October. The Villains did hit a rough patch, however Dean Smith’s side then rallied to go undefeated in December, before meeting defeat at the hands of Manchester United on New Years Day. Local lad and starman Jack Grealish might grab all the headlines, but Dutch winger Anwar El Ghazi’s form definitely should not be overlooked. He only broke into the starting 11 less than a month ago but has managed to maintain his place with some stellar performances.
The Champions hit a rough patch
Despite only getting 2 points from their last 3 matches, Liverpool and clinging on to the to spot of the Premier League on goal difference. We’d expect them to recharge in the league though, however our FA Cup predictions for the Reds are less optimistic. Despite conquering Europe and the Premier League over the past two season, domestic cups haven’t been great under Klopp, so an FA Cup gaming arriving when they have only scored once in their last 3 doesn’t look ideal. Defensive injuries remain the problem for Klopp, as he’s used 10 different backline parings this season.
Look away now Liverpool fans, as we can’t mention the head to head record between these sides without mentioning Villa’s shock 7-2 thrashing of the champions back in October. Prior to that though, Liverpool had won their past 5 league games against Villa. Cup ties between these sides favour Villa though – when these sides last met in the FA Cup way back in April 2015, Villa came out on top as 2-1 winners. Villa also dispatched Liverpool 5-0 in the EFL Cup last December, however it was against a junior Reds side so that can’t have any bearing on our FA Cup predictions today.

Our Betting Tip for Today
Having analysed the above information and having considered recent form, our FA Cup predictions suggest a Villa win on Friday night.
Villa to do the do the double over the champs
Neither of these sides have a good record in this competition in recent years, both of them going out of the competition in the 3rd, 4th and 5th rounds in recent seasons. However, this time around, it looks like Dean Smith’s side might have more motivation to go further than Jurgen Klopp’s. Klopp is among the creed of elite managers who views domestic cups with a certain level of contempt, often fielding 2nd string sides. And with his complaints about the fixture list and squad rotation already this season, there’s a feeling that an FA Cup exit may even quietly come as a blessing for the Reds’ chances of title retention. Villa on the other hand have exceeded expectations so far this season and will see the FA Cup as a realistic chance to grab some silverware. We’re therefor backing a Villa win at 3.4 with Bet365.
