For this Champions League prediction, we’ll be focussing on what’s undoubtedly the heavyweight clash, as Bayern Munich take on Barcelona. Both sides have enjoyed domestic success in recent seasons, but are looking to kick start the new decade with the ultimate European crown.
Barca look to recover from domestic woes
Life in the Barcelona camp hasn’t been quite as rosey this year as it has been in previous seasons. Their poor domestic form following the enforced break saw them drop points in 4 of their final 12 games. Ultimately, this poor run of form allowed Real Madrid to pip them to the La Liga title. In their last European outing, Barcelona did bounce back somewhat from their domestic disappointment with a convincing 3-1 win over Napoli. It’s the weakest Barca side we’ve seen for a while, still, when it comes to making Champions League predictions, you can never write them off totally.
Relentless Bayern Chasing the Treble
Contrary to their opponents, Bayern Munich have been relentless this season, both domestically and in Europe. After an awful start to the season, which saw them sack manager Niko Kovac, Bayern went on to win their 5th title in a row in emphatic fashion. Additionally, they went on to beat Bayer Leverkusen 4-2 to win the DFB Pokal, meaning they’re now chasing a famous treble. In the previous round of this competition, they thumped Chelsea 7-1 on aggregate. To add to that, 31 year old forward Robert Lewandowski has quite literally been unstoppable this season, with 13 goals in just 7 European games.
When creating our Champions League tips, it’s always important to look at the history between the sides. The last time these two teams met in this competition was in the semi finals back in May 2015. Barcelona progressed with a 5-3 aggregate score. Barcelona then went on to beat Juventus in the final that year. The two teams met in the semi finals two years prior in 2013, when Bayern thumped the Catalonians 7-0 on aggregate to then go on and win the cup against Dortmund in an all German final. Should history repeat itself, perhaps this Friday’s match could provide us with the ultimate winner.

Our Betting Tip for Today
Having analysed the above information, our Champions League prediction for this match is a Bayern win. However, we do expect Barca to go down fighting.
Bayern to take one step closer to the treble
Since a 0-0 draw with RB Leipzig back in February, Bayern have won every single competitive match they’ve played. Additionally, they’ve scored 4 goals in each of their last 3 competitive outings in 3 competitions. With that in mind it’s hardly surprising that Bayern go into this match as favourites on odds of 1.95.
However, despite poor end to the La Liga season and report of unrest, any team with an attacking threat as formidable as Barcelona’s should never be written off completely. There might be rumours of his departure, but Messi has still had an individually impressive season, with his Champions League record 2nd only to Bayern’s Lewandowski.
That being said, we expect Bayern’s attacking prowess to be too much for Barcelona’s defence in Lisbon on Friday night. Therefore our betting tip for this match is a Bayern win + both teams to score, which you can place with Bet365 on odds of 3.4.
