Operator Checklist: Top 5 steps for a secure & fair baccarat experience
Whenever you’re playing online, whether it’s Baccarat online in Canada or any other game, you have to be sure that the casino site you’re playing at is going to give you an absolutely secure and fair gambling experience. Here’s our
online casino list
for a secure and fair experience.
Look for licensing
Firstly, look for a strong licence at whatever Baccarat casino you chose. When you’re playing at any foreign online casino with Baccarat, you’ll be able to see their gambling licence – you should be looking for those issued from the most respected licensing authorities, such as the Malta Gaming Authority and Gibraltar Regulatory Authority. We see many sites using licences from Curacao and other small Caribbean islands, but these are much less tightly regulated and care should be taken before using them for betting.
Check for transparency
Secondly, transparency is important in looking at fairness and security. A site offering Baccarat online for Canada with membership of eCOGRA (eCommerce Online Gaming Regulation and Assurance) have signed up to this internationally approved testing agency that enforces player protection and standards – always a good thing for your playing!
Search for Security & Encryption
Thirdly, look for security information of any site offering online Baccarat for Canada. Look for SSL/https webpages, encryption of webpages, enhanced verification procedures – all of which should be clearly noted at the site.
Read operator reviews
Fourthly, consider checking out the reputation through our Betastic reviews of online Baccarat casino sites. We have a wealth of articles and comprehensive, independent reviews of casino operators big and small, old and new for you to check out at Betastic.
Always read the T&Cs
Finally, always consider whether any bonus you might get is fair. You need to take a careful look at the terms and conditions and wagering requirements at anywhere you’re looking at to play Baccarat online in Canada. With Baccarat and other table games, you’ll invariably find that your betting online contributes a small percentage towards the wagering requirements – as low as 10% or sometimes nothing!

Playing Baccarat in Canada – all you really need to know to play well!
Baccarat may come in a poor third in terms of card game popularity after Blackjack and Poker, but it’s got history, it’s a simple game to play, there are several fascinating variants available, and perhaps best of all – it’s got a thin house edge. All in all, why wouldn’t you want to play?
A short history of Baccarat
As with most card games, the game that would eventually become what we recognise as Baccarat has evolved over time. But the game was definitely around in a familiar form by 19th Century France, where Baccarat Banque (3-person game) and Chemin de Fer (2person) were popular private gaming room pastimes. However, the modern version, Baccarat Punto Banco, with the player betting on either their own or the banker’s hand, developed from Havana’s gaming rooms in the 1940s – and it was Punto Banco that would go on to dominate casinos and online betting sites since then.
How to play Baccarat & the rules of the game
The aim of Baccarat is simple – get as close to 9 points as possible with your cards.
Face cards are worth 1, Number cards are face value, Aces are 1. Cards total is calculated on units only, so anything 10 or above simply removes the first digit (hand of 10+5=15 has a value of 5).
Firstly, you decide to bet on your own Player hand, the Banker’s hand, or the Tie. Next place your bets. Two cards are dealt to both the Player and the Banker. If you’ve got a combined card value of less than 5, you’ll receive a third card. If the cards you bet on (Player or Banker) are 8 or 9, you win. If the end result is a tie and you bet on a tie, you win.
Payouts on the Player are even-money (1/1), Banker pays 1/1 as well but in most Baccarat games the Banker bets take a 5% commission, so the true payout is 95% or 19/20. Finally, a tie pays out 9/1.
Understanding the house edge and why Baccarat is so good!
All casino games have a house edge, the mathematical advantage that each game gives to the casino as you play over time. The lower the house edge, the better it is for you!
The best thing about casino baccarat is the low house edge. In fact, the only table game that beats it is Blackjack – and that’s only if you are playing a tight, correct strategy game of Blackjack.
Banker Hand offers the best odds for the player – 1.06% house edge. Player hand has 1.24%, while the Tie has the worst edge – 14.36%.
Baccarat variants & live dealer Baccarat
There are plenty of Baccarat variants available. Some are merely cosmetic or feature-driven (such as lightning or fast Baccarat), some have minor rule alterations or fun added extras, and some have a huge number of rule differences.
But most often, Baccarat variants such as Chemin de Ger and en Banque are found in brick and mortar casinos. In online casinos, unlike Blackjack and Roulette, you’ll usually only find a couple of variants and most often these will be various different versions of Punto Banco Baccarat.
One variant you will sometimes find on all Baccarat is No Commission Baccarat, which does exactly that and removes the 5% Banker commission, but the game adds a rule – if you bet on Banker and win with 6, you only get half wager back.
Finally, you’ll always find live dealer Baccarat among your options. As you expect, this is a live video feed to a real-life dealer and often have the option to chat with other players. The key thing with live dealer tables is to ensure you’re careful to pick the right table limits for your play.
Top tips for better Baccarat!
Say NO to the Tie
Yes, the tie offers 9/1 odds but it also has that 14.4%. Skip it.
Back the Banker
Statistically, the banker bet is the safer bet to make despite the 5% commission on a win. With its lower house edge, the fact the banker bet will win (typically) win 50.68% versus 49.32% for the player bet means that over time it’s just slightly better.
Try a strategy
Now, as with any strategy there’s NEVER any guarantee that you’re going to make money. And most Baccarat strategies out there are actually based on playing live casino where you can wait for a new card shoe and sit out rounds. However, one simple one to try online is the switch strategy where you flip from Baker to Player. Pick one side and bet until you lose twice. Then switch. Repeat. And ignore Ties.
Don’t look for patterns
In video casino Baccarat, you will not be able to spot patterns – because they are not going to happen, randomised cards ensure that.
With live Baccarat, you can look for patterns – CAREFULLY!
Now, if you’re playing at a real table or a live casino table, it is possible to see some patterns, trends, or at least some Player/Banker advantage coming through in short runs as you are working with new shoes and limited cards. But please, be careful! And if you are interested in pattern analysis in live Baccarat, go and read the many, many extensive articles first!
